Hope for Healthcare Update

Hope for Healthcare Update

We have reached the halfway point of our 2022 Hope for Healthcare campaign! During November and December Hope for Healthcare raises awareness of, and donations for, the Emergency Department redevelopment project at the Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS).

The BCHS is this region’s provider for emergency services and is committed to providing high quality, compassionate care. The Emergency Department (ED) at the Brantford General Hospital is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing all of Brantford, Brant County, Six Nations of the Grand River, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and surrounding areas with emergent care when needed most. Serving more than 58,000 patients annually, the ED is truly a lifeline for our community.

Emergency Department Redevelopment at BCHS

Redeveloping the existing ED at the Brantford General Hospital and investing in new patient equipment is critical to ensuring our local healthcare system remains strong and able to serve
our rapidly growing community. The Ontario Ministry of Health does not cover the entire cost of the ED redevelopment and the BCHS Foundation needs to raise and contribute in excess of
$8 million to cover a portion of renovation expenses, and to purchase medical equipment needed for the new space.

The Emergency Department (ED) is a vital asset within local healthcare used to treat serious illnesses and life-threatening injuries. The ED redevelopment will include enhancements such as new entrances, a new waiting area, extended stay zone and an Indigenous Healing Suite. These renovations will help us improve and ensure patient safety and privacy. Investment in the ED also puts the best tools and equipment into the hands of BCHS physicians and caregivers on the frontline.

We are excited to share that the Brant Community Healthcare System has received approval from the Ministry of Health to enter Stage 5 implementation for the Emergency Department redevelopment. This means that the BCHS will be moving forward to tender for Project 1 of the Emergency Department redevelopment. This next step in the project will allow the BCHS to begin accepting bids from contractors to execute the plan, anticipating that construction will begin in the New Year.

The Ministry of Health does not cover the entire cost of the ED redevelopment, using a 90/10 funding model. This means that the BCHS Foundation must raise in excess of $8 million to cover a portion of the renovation expenses plus all costs for new or replacement medical equipment to be used for patient care in the new space. Fundraising for the redeveloped Emergency Department is a top priority for the BCHS Foundation.

Integrated Central Monitoring System

Your donation is needed now to outfit the Emergency Department with a new Integrated Central Monitoring System (ICMS) which includes a central computer system and 22 individual patient monitors, for a total fundraising need of $750,000. The ICMS is the single largest equipment investment required as part of the Emergency Department project and will increase capability to monitor 22 patients at a single time. These patient units provide caregivers with critical real time patient information including heart rate and rhythm, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.

Please consider making a gift today towards the Integrated Central Monitoring System for the Emergency Department at the Brantford General Hospital.

The Willett, Paris

The Willett, Paris marked its 100th anniversary this past July. A cornerstone of the community, it has provided vital medical services to the residents of Paris, Brant County and surrounding area since 1922. Over the past 18 years, the BCHS Foundation, through the generosity of its donors, has invested close to $2 million dollars in continued improvements at the Willett in Paris, most  ecently contributing $300,000 for a critical radiology upgrade and purchase of new diagnostic equipment.

The Willett Urgent Care Centre provides rapid and expert care for non-emergent conditions and sees approximately 20,000 patients each year. A valued part of the Brant Community Healthcare System, the medical services that the Willett provides are critical to serve the needs of our rapidly growing community.

Please consider making a gift to support the Willett, Paris today!

A Message From the BCHS Foundation

Heather Wilson
Chair, Board of Directors
BCHS Foundation

The Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) Foundation Board of Directors and staff are truly grateful for the incredible support received from caring citizens and local businesses in our communities.

With the cost of medical equipment and services the need for community support continues to grow. It is due to contributions from people like you that our healthcare professionals have the resources required to provide quality patient care.

It is updated spaces and essential equipment purchased with donor dollars that are used to diagnose and care for our patients. There is no ongoing commitment of government funding from the Ministry of Health provided to upgrade and acquire new technology and capital equipment. It is our donors that help us bridge this funding gap.

Patients’ lives are being saved every day at the BCHS. With your involvement through a donation of any size, you are making a difference! Let’s ensure that our physicians and healthcare teams have the spaces and tools they need to continue offering the exceptional care we depend on.

Contact the BCHS Foundation office TODAY to learn how you can become a donor. Every donation counts.

On behalf of the BCHS Foundation board and staff, we wish you a happy and healthy holiday season.

Respectfully,
Heather Wilson
