Hope for Healthcare: Andrew Stevenson, “Our Rockstar”

“We call him our rockstar, because he was the best father, husband and fighter,” shares his wife, Amy.
Known as “Drew” to those close to him, Andrew Stevenson’s healthcare journey began unexpectedly during an annual family camping trip in the summer of 2021. After experiencing abdominal pain, Drew visited the Willett in Paris, where initial testing led to further diagnostics at Brantford General Hospital, a large blockage was discovered. Within hours, Drew was in surgery. The diagnosis: colon cancer.
Thanks to timely access to diagnostic imaging, surgery, and follow-up care, Drew began treatment quickly. Over the next several years, he underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy, and ongoing monitoring at the Brant Community Cancer Clinic. Throughout his journey, Drew faced every setback with optimism and strength — earning his family’s nickname: Our Rockstar.
Amy reflects on the care Drew received with deep gratitude: “I could go on about the staff, as they are such amazing individuals, who are special people, who do what they do with such passion.”

Drew’s dedicated care team of surgeons, physicians, nurses, and pharmacists at the Brant Community Cancer Clinic provided not only exceptional medical care but also unwavering support to the Stevenson family.
Through countless scans, treatments, and hospital visits, Amy says she developed a new appreciation for how much advanced diagnostic equipment means to families like hers.
“They were always so quick to treat him, no matter the situation.”
Inspired by the care they received, Amy and her sons, Spencer and Brodie, chose to honour Drew by giving back. Their donation supports the Brant Community Cancer Clinic, helping to ensure other patients have access to the same care that meant so much to them.
“Personally, I think it’s important for the community to give back to healthcare. We all know someone who will need it. Any amount can make a difference — whether it’s for new medical equipment or small comforts that help someone along their journey.”
