featuring Ken McNaughton, Vice Chair – BCHS Foundation Board of Directors

Ken is married to his wife and business partner; Robin McNaughton. They are both Financial Planners and own two franchises of Co-operators in Brantford and in Paris.

They are also proud parents of a daughter who is currently attending law school.

How did you get connected to the BCHS Foundation Board of Directors?

I’ve had several family members that have had to use the Brant Community Healthcare System and I have had the opportunity to experience amazing, caring staff that were doing their absolute best each and every day. My mom and brother were hospitalized for some time and the care offered to them and our family was extraordinary. When the opportunity to volunteer arose, I immediately said yes.

What do you do outside of your position on the Board?

I’ve been a member of the Kiwanis Club of Brantford for over 30 years. I like to be involved and be active in the community and have been on the Board of several organizations including the Kiwanis Club, The Brantford-Brant Chamber of Commerce, Braemar House School and Advocis (the Financial Planners Association of Canada). We also share custody of two French bulldogs with our daughter.

What motivated you to join the Board, and what excites you most about being a part of this organization?

The level of care provided in the facilities that are operating beyond life expectancy is amazing. Imagine what healthcare will look like in Brant County when we have facilities and equipment that equal the quality of the staff and doctors. I want to be part of that and help bring that level of care to our community. We deserve it, and the work done by the BCHS Foundation will help make it a financial reality.

What is your favourite snack?

No question – a hot dog. I am on a quest to find the greatest hot dog in the world, and every new place I visit I must include a stop at their top hotdog joint. I have found lots of very good ones, but I am still searching for the absolute best.

Why do you think it is important for the community to be involved in local healthcare?

Every single one of us will either use or be personally affected by the care provided at our hospital. I want the absolute best care available for my family, and will do everything I can to make sure they get it. I’m sure most people feel the same. If we all come together and volunteer time or donate funds or expertise we will have it.

What values or principles do you live by, and how do you see them influencing your work with the Board?
