Inaugural Hospital Bed Races Raise Over $223,000 for Patient Beds

The Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) Foundation is proud to announce that the inaugural Hospital Bed Races, presented by Sleep N’ Comfort, raised $223,362.37 in support of new patient beds for the BCHS.

Held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, the high-energy community fundraiser brought together 16 teams for a day of spirited competition, creativity, costumes, and fundraising in support of local health care. While rainy weather moved the event indoors at the Branlyn Community Centre, spirits remained high as teams raced retired hospital beds in front of cheering supporters.

Funds raised through the event will support the replacement of patient beds at The Willett, Paris, while also helping improve patient care equipment across the healthcare system.

“Hospital beds are one of the most essential pieces of equipment used every single day throughout our hospitals,” says Kari Wilson, Executive Director of the Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation. “The Ministry of Health does not fully fund this type of patient equipment, which is why community support through events like Hospital Bed Races is so important.”

Thanks to the incredible generosity of the community, along with the support of a generous matching donor, the event generated more than $223,362.37 toward its fundraising priorities. Funds raised will help purchase 32 patient beds for The Willett Hospital in Paris, while also supporting replacement needs at Brantford General Hospital.

The event featured themed team costumes, sponsor activities, entertainment, food trucks, and plenty of friendly competition. Awards were presented for fastest team, top fundraiser, and best theme/costume, with the Brantford Firefighters taking home the coveted “golden bedpan” trophy.
