The Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation would like to sincerely thank Equitable Bank for their recent $10,000 donation which was made possible due to the advocacy from Healthcare and Municipal Employees’ Credit Union.

This donation is designated to support the Indigenous care area which is included as part of the Emergency Department (ED) Renovation Improvement Project.

The ED Renovation Improvement Project is a 25,295 square foot interior and exterior renovation of the existing Emergency Department at the Brantford General site. Construction is now underway and will take approximately 3.5 years to complete.

This project includes adding nearly 10,000 sq. ft. of new space with a new walk-in entrance; renovation of patient entry, waiting, triage and registration areas; renovation of the Extended Stay Area; development of a new See and Treat area and the addition of an Indigenous family room.

Over 58,000 people from our community and surrounding areas need the ED annually and an investment in this space and new patient equipment is required to serve our rapidly growing patient population. With the growth of the community, it is anticipated that the ED will have 70,000 patient visits per year by 2030.

The BCHS Foundation is responsible for raising in excess of $8 million to cover 10% of construction costs as well as the purchase of furnishings and medical equipment to outfit the new space. The BCHS Foundation has raised $6.2 million toward this project and continues down the final stretch of fundraising to purchase the necessary equipment to make the renewed Emergency Department a reality for our community.
