Pediatrics at the BCHS – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Last year the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Brantford General Hospital provided specialized care to over 290 newborns in our community.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is where health care teams monitor and care for premature babies and medically unstable full term babies. This is a quiet environment for our most at risk newborns to help them rest, grow and get better. The clinic is equipped to deal with almost all medical conditions in babies born at 32 weeks or later.

Registered nurses and pediatricians work together to provide special care for our youngest patients and their parents. They keep close watch on the baby’s condition, develop care plans, answer parent’s questions and eagerly watch the babies in the NICU grow stronger every day.

“Our NICU is an 8 bed + Stabilization room, Level 2b care centre that provides a caring environment for our most at risk newborns (starting at 32 weeks) to grow and get better.” explains Amy Griesser, Clinical Manager, Family Birthing Centre, Pediatrics and NICU and the Brant Community Healthcare System.

“We have a highly specialized interdisciplinary team that includes Pediatricians, Nurses, Pharmacists, Social Workers and Dieticians. Together our goal is to provide exceptional care for our exceptional newborns and their families closer to home.”
