Pediatrics at the BCHS – Emergency Care

Family thankful for emergency care received at Brantford General Hospital

The Souter family is so thankful for the emergency care their son received at the Brantford General Hospital. Pediatricians and caregivers in the Emergency Department (ED) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) worked swiftly and skillfully to get him stabilized and ready for further life-saving treatment.

“My son was just 24 hours old when we had to rush him by ambulance to the Emergency Department at the Brantford General Hospital. He was turning blue and there was a team waiting for us that jumped right into action to get his oxygen levels up” explains Kaitlyn Souter, a grateful mother.

“It took 5 hours to stabilize him and he needed to be moved to the NICU and put on a CPAP machine to keep his airways open. They discovered he needed immediate treatment for a heart condition and coordinated transport and admission to a specialized pediatric medical facility.”

“I was blown away at how quickly and professionally the transfer was handled”, Kaityln adds. “Because of the timely response and preparedness of the caregivers at BCHS, my son does not have damage to his brain or internal organs from oxygen deprivation. He has not skipped a beat and has been meeting all of his developmental milestones.”
